Artillery Correction
Correction is fastest when the miss is classified first. Directional error belongs to plotting or traverse; depth error belongs to range, charges, or elevation; objective failure can belong to shell or target identity.
Fast diagnosis
Match the symptom to the first check
Preserve the baseline shot
Keep target, origin, bearing, range, shell, charges, elevation, barrel, and observed result. Without a baseline, the next shot cannot confirm which correction worked.
Correct lateral error on the map
Recheck origin and target endpoints before adjusting traverse. If the measurement line is wrong, repair it and copy the new bearing. Avoid changing elevation when the shell landed at the right depth.
Correct depth error in the ballistic chain
Verify range and the charge-elevation pair. A physically loaded charge mismatch should be fixed before changing calculated elevation. If inputs match, use current observation feedback or recalculate from a corrected range.
Handle uncertain observations
If impact is not visible or feedback is ambiguous, obtain another observation method rather than guessing. A blind correction can move an accurate shot away from the target.
Close the correction loop
After the next impact, mark whether the change improved lateral position, depth, and objective state. Continue only with evidence and carry the confirmed correction to the appropriate firing card.
